Trump Signs Executive Order Banning Transgender Athletes from Women’s Sports

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order banning transgender athletes from participating in girls’ and women’s sports in the United States. The order, titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” aims to end what Trump described as “the war on women’s sports.” The directive requires schools across the nation to comply with the new rules, with the US Department of Education overseeing enforcement.
Under the new measure, schools that allow transgender women to compete in women’s sports could face investigations for violating Title IX and risk losing federal funding. The order also extends to international competitions held in the United States, such as the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
LGBT rights activists have condemned the move, viewing it as part of Trump’s ongoing actions against the transgender community. This comes after a controversial statement during Trump’s inauguration, where he asserted that there are only two sexes, male and female.
The issue of transgender women in female sports has sparked significant debate in recent years, with various global sports organizations, including World Athletics and FINA, already introducing similar restrictions. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) currently allows more flexibility for transgender athletes.
