Tension has gripped the Catholic community in Delta State as two priests, Rev Father Chochos Kunav and Rev Father Raphael Ogigba, have been abducted in Agbaro Otor Area, near Warri, Delta State.
According to the authorities, the clerics were forcefully taken away by yet-to-be-identified gunmen along the Agbaro Otor Road on Saturday night, while on their way to Ughelli.
The Delta State police command in a statement on Sunday said it is on the trail of the kidnappers who abducted priests.
A statement issued by Rev Father Okereke Kizito and made available to journalists in Warri on Monday explained that Father Chochos who works in Ibadan was on a visit to his colleague of the Catholic Diocese of Warri, Rev Father Ogigba.
The statement said, “They both later went to see another priest around Agbaro-Otor and on their way back they were abducted”.
The Rev father in his statement called for prayers for the safe release of the abducted priests.
“We ask for intense prayers for quick and safe release. May Jesus the high priest and the good Shepherd take care of his priests and may our mother thrice admirable Queen and victress of schoenstatt intercede for them, “it added.
Giving further details of the development, the Delta state Police Public Relation Officer, Edafe Bright said the command has been proactively handling the abduction to ensure they are released unharmed.
