Two people tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Friday evening in the Egbado area of Ewekoro Local Government, Ogun State, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. Another person was injured in the collision, which occurred around 6:00 PM.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday in Abeokuta. She explained that the accident involved a Howo truck, registered FGE 904ZS, which was driven against oncoming traffic and collided with a tricycle.
“The Howo truck, owned by Dangote Cement Company in Ibeshe, was driven by an unidentified individual who drove against traffic regulations, leading to the tragic collision with the tricycle,” Odutola said.
The driver of the tricycle, Samuel Egede, a 33-year-old male from Folami Ifo, was operating his vehicle in accordance with traffic laws when the truck struck. The crash resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left one person injured.
Traffic officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after the report was received, where they created a sketch map and took photographs of the site. The bodies of the victims were transferred to the State Hospital Morgue in Ifo for autopsies, while the truck and tricycle were taken to the police station for inspection and safekeeping.
The Ogun State Motor Traffic Department has launched an investigation into the accident, with further updates to be provided as the inquiry progresses.
