Two Nigerians Awarded £50,000 Commonwealth Peace Prize for Groundbreaking Work in Peacebuilding

James Wuye and Muhammad Ashafa, co-founders of the Interfaith Mediation Centre in Nigeria, have been honored with the inaugural Commonwealth Peace Prize, a prestigious award worth £50,000.

Their remarkable efforts in bridging religious divides and fostering reconciliation earned them global recognition for their transformative work in peacebuilding.

The announcement was made by Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland, who lauded their exceptional dedication to preventing violent conflict and promoting mutual understanding.

In her congratulatory letter to Nigeria’s Deputy High Commissioner, Sani Suleiman, Scotland praised their contributions as a “global benchmark” for peace efforts.

The Commonwealth Peace Prize, established in 2024, celebrates individuals whose actions have made a lasting impact on global peace initiatives.
