Two security personnel, including a member of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and a vigilante, tragically lost their lives during an encounter with armed bandits operating in the Jibia Local Government Area of the state.
The attack occurred on Thursday, November 7, when the bandits carried out a series of coordinated assaults in three areas within Jibia Township—Ka’ida, Unguwar One Boy, and Danmarke quarters—at approximately 9:15 pm. In the course of the attacks, five individuals sustained gunshot wounds.
The State Police Command spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday, explaining that the injured victims were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Sadiq added that the combined efforts of the police, military, community watch corps, and vigilantes successfully thwarted the bandits’ attacks. The joint security forces, led by the DPO of Jibia, engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle lasting over an hour. The superior firepower and tactical advantage of the security forces eventually forced the bandits to retreat, though it is unclear how many casualties they sustained.
The operation also led to the successful rescue of 16 victims who had been trapped by the bandits.
The police spokesman assured that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses. He emphasized that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders, are intensifying efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Musa, reassured the public of the command’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
