United Bank for Africa (UBA) kicked off the Yuletide season with its annual Garden Light-Up ceremony, marking the start of the festive celebrations.
The event, organized through UBA’s corporate social responsibility arm, the UBA Foundation, symbolizes the bank’s commitment to spreading joy and fostering a sense of community during this special time of year.
In a statement released on Tuesday, UBA described the event as a vibrant display of festive decorations, brilliant lights, fireworks, and live music, all aimed at setting a celebratory tone for the season of giving. The Garden Light-Up serves as a beacon of hope and togetherness for UBA’s staff, customers, and the broader community.
During the ceremony, UBA’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, highlighted the bank’s dedication to creating memorable experiences and expressing gratitude to staff and customers for their efforts throughout the year. “As we approach Christmas, a time of love, we remember the spirit of giving and community,” Alawuba said. “I would like to express my sincere thanks to each one of you. We are thankful for all your sacrifices and contributions, especially in what has been a challenging year.”
Alawuba also took the opportunity to thank UBA’s Board, led by Chairman Tony Elumelu, and the entire executive management team, including the CEOs from the bank’s branches in America, for their continued support and hard work. “As we celebrate 75 years of UBA, we remain focused on building a legacy that will endure,” he added. “This ceremony reflects our values of family, unity, and giving back to the communities we serve.”
The event was attended by UBA staff and customers, who were treated to Christmas carols performed by the UBA Customer Fulfilment Centre’s choir. The festivities culminated in a guided tour of the UBA Foundation gardens on Lagos Marina, followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
In line with its longstanding commitment to corporate social responsibility, the UBA Foundation continues to make significant contributions to sustainable development in its host communities. This festive season, the Foundation will be feeding tens of thousands of people across Africa as part of its ongoing initiatives.
The UBA Foundation is dedicated to improving the socio-economic conditions of the communities where UBA operates, with a focus on education, environmental sustainability, economic empowerment, and other special projects that contribute to long-term development.
