UBA Launches Upgraded PoS Terminals, MONI App to Drive SME Growth and Expand Digital Payments Across Africa

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has taken a major leap in redefining the digital payment space on the continent with the launch of its newly upgraded Point of Sale (PoS) terminals and the revamped UBA MONI App. These innovations are designed to support the bank’s goal of driving financial inclusion and powering small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) across Africa.

The launch is part of UBA’s broader campaign titled “Innovation for Progress: Empowering SMEs, Connecting Communities, Simplifying Banking”, a move that signals the bank’s ongoing commitment to using technology to simplify financial services and strengthen local economies.

The improved PoS terminals have been built with advanced features aimed at enhancing the daily operations of merchants by providing smoother, faster, and more transparent transactions. Among the standout additions are instant settlement of funds, real-time transaction tracking, pay-by-link capability, and a commitment to 100 percent transaction success rates. Designed for flexibility and scalability, the new terminals cater to both small and large businesses, delivering the speed and reliability that modern entrepreneurs demand.

UBA’s agency banking platform has also received a significant boost with the reengineered UBA MONI App. The updated version introduces a suite of new features including instant settlements, pay-by-transfer options, a newly designed homepage, and strengthened security measures such as secret question authentication. These enhancements are meant to deliver a more intuitive and secure experience for both agents and customers.

Despite the new additions, the app continues to support core functionalities such as account opening with BVN or NIN, real-time transfers, deposits and withdrawals, and airtime or data purchases all with the added advantage of discounts for agents. The bank also confirmed that instant PoS deployment remains a key part of the service offering.

Speaking during the launch, UBA’s Group Head of Retail and Digital Banking, Shamsideen Fashola, said the new rollouts demonstrate the bank’s dedication to providing cutting-edge financial solutions for businesses and individuals alike.

“At UBA, we are constantly innovating to deliver seamless and secure payment systems for businesses of every size,” Fashola said. “These upgraded tools both the PoS terminals and the MONI App are designed to empower merchants and our agent network with real-time solutions that boost productivity and confidence.”

He described the enhanced PoS terminals not just as devices for payment, but as tools that help businesses remain competitive in today’s fast-moving economy. He added that with UBA’s extensive digital infrastructure and regional reach, the bank is well-positioned to make reliable financial access a reality across the continent.

Fashola also emphasized the value of the MONI App for UBA’s agents, many of whom operate in rural or underserved communities.

“With this upgrade, we’re giving our agents even more powerful tools to serve their customers effectively. From faster transaction times to enhanced security, these changes will help them expand their operations and support financial inclusion at the grassroots level,” he noted.

The move underscores UBA’s role as one of Africa’s leading financial institutions championing innovation that not only simplifies banking but also bridges the digital gap for entrepreneurs and everyday users alike.
