UEFA Super Cup: Real Madrid vs Atalanta – preview, date, time, prize money

With a high-stakes showdown between Real Madrid and Atalanta for the UEFA Super Cup, the 2024 European football season begins tonight.

With kickoff set for 8:00 PM Nigerian time, the game will take place at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland.

Following their June victory against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, Real Madrid is eager to add another trophy to their collection.

Meanwhile, Atalanta stunned fans by clinching the Europa League title in Dublin with a victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

This year’s Super Cup is not only a battle for continental supremacy but also marks the debut of Kylian Mbappe in a Real Madrid shirt.

Mbappe, who joined Madrid this summer, is set to make his first appearance following his recent return from Euro 2024.

Jude Bellingham, another summer signing, might also feature after his break, although Eduardo Camavinga will miss out due to injury. Brazilian forward Endrick is expected to play a role as well.

On the other side, Atalanta will see potential debuts from Ben Godfrey, though the club will be without new signing Nicolo Zaniolo, who is sidelined with an injury. Gianluca Scamacca, Giorgio Scalvini, Rafael Toloi, and Teun Koopmeiners will also miss the match due to various issues.

Head-to-Head Record

The two teams have met only once before in competitive matches during the 2020-21 Champions League Round of 16. Real Madrid emerged victorious with a 3-1 aggregate score, including a decisive late goal from Ferland Mendy in the first leg in Italy.

Prize Money

A victory in tonight’s match will be financially rewarding for the winning team. Reports indicate that Real Madrid could pocket €5 million if they win, while the runner-up will receive €4 million. The total prize fund for the Super Cup is €9 million, which is divided between the two teams.

Where to Watch

The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport on DSTV.
