United Airlines flight UA613, a Boeing 787-8 traveling from Lagos to Washington, declared an emergency and returned to Lagos after experiencing a technical issue.
The flight, which had 245 passengers, eight flight attendants, and three pilots, was en route over Ivory Coast airspace when it turned back to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).
Reports indicate that several passengers and crew members sustained minor injuries during the incident. According to an anonymous passenger, the turbulence began after passengers had unfastened their seatbelts and were served meals. The passenger described a sharp descent, with the plane losing pressure, causing them to hit their head on the ceiling and lose consciousness.
The descent occurred three times, leading to injuries among others onboard. The pilot initially announced plans to land in Ghana, but the aircraft ultimately returned to Nigeria after spending four hours in the air.
The airline later confirmed that the flight returned to Lagos due to a technical issue. Upon landing safely, the aircraft was met by first responders to attend to the reported minor injuries of passengers and crew.
