Uromi killings: Edo, Kano leaders have brokered peace – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that the political leadership of Edo and Kano States, whose citizens were involved in the recent killings in Uromi, have resolved the issue.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that both states’ leadership have taken steps to address the matter. He explained, “The political leadership of Edo and Kano States have devised an action plan regarding the incident. As you are aware, the leadership of Edo State visited Kano State to discuss the issue and the families of the victims.”

Additionally, the DHQ addressed concerns about recent herdsmen attacks and killings in several states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Enugu, Benue, Ondo, Zamfara, and Cross River. While some speculated that these incidents were a sign that the military had backed off from addressing the crisis, Kangye assured the public that the military remains fully engaged in combating violent herdsmen, terrorists, and bandits. He emphasized, “The military has not stepped back from the fight against violent herdsmen, terrorists, and bandits. We have neutralized many of them and will continue our operations to eliminate these threats and their leaders.”

Regarding rumors that the Republic of Niger had withdrawn from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Kangye clarified that such reports remain speculative. He explained, “The MNJTF was established by the countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission to address the cross-border movement of terrorists and criminals. What happens in one country affects the others, so cooperation is vital.”
