US Announces $2.3 Billion Security Assistance Package for Ukraine

The United States has pledged a new $2.3 billion security assistance package to Ukraine, including crucial air defense and anti-tank weapons, amid ongoing conflict with Russia. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made the announcement on Tuesday during a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
This substantial aid package comes at a critical time as Ukrainian forces continue to face significant challenges in their battle against the Russian invasion, with Russian forces frequently reporting new territorial gains in eastern Ukraine.
“The United States will soon announce more than $2.3 billion in new security assistance for Ukraine,” Secretary Austin stated, highlighting the importance of the package which will include “more air defense interceptors, anti-tank weapons, and other critical munitions” sourced from US stockpiles.
Additionally, Austin noted that the package would enable the expedited procurement of more Patriot and NASAMS air defense interceptors. This move aims to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities significantly.
Minister Umerov expressed gratitude for the continued US support, emphasizing its critical role in Ukraine’s defense efforts. “With that support, we will stop Russia and stop the aggression,” he stated.
The United States has been a steadfast military supporter of Ukraine since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, committing over $51 billion in weapons, ammunition, and other security aid.
