Valencia Flood: Nigerian Government Condoles With Spain Over Disaster
The Nigerian government has expressed shock over the news of devastating flash floods that struck the Valencia region in eastern Spain, on Tuesday, 29th October, 2024, claiming 158 lives and several others missing.
The death toll has risen to 202, according to authorities, and there are fears of a possible rise as the days unfold.
It comes after buildings and bridges were swept away while towns became submerged in a muddy deluge, with overturned cars scattered in the streets after more than a year’s worth of rain fell in just eight hours earlier this week.
Among the casualties was footballer Jose Castillejo, who was 28 and had played for a number of clubs in his home country, including the La liga giants, Valencia FC
Reacting to the unfortunate incident, Amb. Eche Abu-Obe, the Spokesperson, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a Statement on behalf of the Government and good people of Nigeria, commiserated with the Spanish Government, while also extending the well wishes of the nation.
“Nigeria stands with Spain at this tragic moment and therefore conveys its deepest condolences to the people of the Kingdom of Spain, while praying for the families of the victims” the Statement read.
