Vice President Shettima Mobilizes Resources for Jigawa Following Tragic Tanker Explosion

Vice President Kashim Shettima has directed the deployment of resources to Jigawa State in response to the tanker explosion that claimed 140 lives.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications Stanley Nkwocha, made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday.

Shettima expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized the importance of road safety measures. He instructed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to send personnel to the affected area to provide immediate support. “My heart aches for those who have had their families torn apart by this disaster,” he stated, affirming the federal government’s commitment to stand with the people of Jigawa.

“We are mobilizing all necessary resources to support the injured and assist the families affected by this calamity,” he added. Shettima also highlighted the need for increased public awareness and safety measures to prevent future incidents, saying, “Every life is precious, and we must do all we can to protect our citizens.

He commended the efforts of first responders and medical personnel, praising their dedication as a testament to the nation’s spirit.

On October 11, Shettima inaugurated the National Road Safety Advisory Council (NaRSAC) to develop strategies aligned with global best practices for reducing traffic accidents.

He tasked the council with coordinating efforts among federal, state, and local governments to achieve shared road safety objectives.
