Victor Osimhen Included in Manchester United’s Four-Man Striker Shortlist

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been named as one of the four key strikers on Manchester United’s radar for the upcoming summer transfer window, as the club looks to strengthen its attacking options.

The Red Devils are expected to dive into the market for a forward following the underwhelming performances of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund this season. Zirkzee has scored just six goals in 44 appearances since joining from Bologna last summer, while Hojlund has found the net eight times in 39 matches across all competitions.

These struggles have contributed to Manchester United’s difficulties in attack, as the club has scored only 37 goals in 29 Premier League matches this season, ranking them behind 13 other teams in the league’s scoring charts.

According to journalist Florian Plettenburg, Osimhen is among four potential striker targets for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

Currently on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray, Osimhen has been in sensational form, netting 26 goals in 30 appearances, including 20 goals in 22 league games, making him the Super Lig’s top scorer. He is set to return to Napoli in the summer, but a permanent departure is likely ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Despite interest from other clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, a recent report suggests that Osimhen is eager to join Manchester United at Old Trafford.

In addition to Osimhen, United is also reportedly interested in Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, whose goalscoring abilities have caught the attention of head coach Ruben Amorim, who worked with the forward during his time at Sporting.

Furthermore, the club is keeping an eye on two Bundesliga forwards: RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who has scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 36 matches this season, and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, who has scored 19 goals and assisted eight in 38 appearances, including 13 goals in 25 Bundesliga matches.

Meanwhile, Napoli is considering Hojlund as a potential replacement for Osimhen, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Osimhen is currently on international duty with the Nigerian national team as they prepare for must-win World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. Reflecting on the importance of the qualifiers, Osimhen said, “It’s a dream of every footballer to play at the World Cup, and with our situation in the group, I am desperate, like other players, to make it to the 2026 tournament. We suffered a huge disappointment in 2022, and we simply can’t let that happen again to us, the country, and our generation.”
