VP Shettima Advocates Collaboration Among MDAs to Advance Tinubu’s Agenda

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for enhanced collaboration among ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to effectively implement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda across various sectors.

This appeal came during the National Council on Privatization (NCP) meeting he chaired on Wednesday, where the council ratified the 2021 and 2022 audit financial reports of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

The council also acknowledged the BPE’s progress in executing its 2024 work plan, which aims to strengthen its operations. In a statement from media aide Stanley Nkwocha, it was noted that key decisions were made during the NCP’s third meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Additionally, the council directed the BPE to engage with relevant parties to resolve disputes related to the sale of the Sapele II (Ogorode Generation Company Ltd) and the coal blocks owned by the Nigerian Coal Corporation.

In his remarks, Shettima praised the new management of the BPE for its diligence and renewed vision, encouraging stakeholders to support the bureau’s objectives. He specifically commended the agency for its oversight and completion of the Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Plant concession, as well as efforts to establish an Independent System Operator.

The Vice President emphasized the importance of making decisive moves in the power sector to address ongoing challenges in the country’s energy landscape.

Presenting the BPE’s 2024 work plan progress report, Director General Ayodeji Gbeleyi stated that the bureau generated N93.47 billion in the first half of 2024 from three transactions, amounting to 35.9% of the expected revenue for that period. He outlined measures to improve operations, including enhancing concession management and implementing best practices for optimizing public enterprises.

The meeting was attended by several key ministers, including Finance Minister Wale Edun, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Abubakar Kyari, and Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, among others.
