The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to rid the nation of criminal elements trying to disrupt peace and security of the country.
Egbetokun said this after delivering to the vice chancellors of the Universities of Jos and Maiduguri, who had been kidnapped in Benue State a week prior, the medical students who had been saved.
Egbetokun said “We remain resolute in our commitment to rid our nation of criminal elements who seek to disrupt the peace and security of society,”
“The Nigerian Police Force will continue to employ every lawful means at its disposal to protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians.”
The IGP reassured Nigerians and all residents of the country that the police will remain watchful, aggressive, and unwavering in its quest of a safer Nigeria in which human security is a top concern.
He stated that the force will not rest until every citizen and resident can live their everyday life without fear or intimidation.
After seven days in captivity, the medical students comprising of 16 males and 4 females, who were abducted while on transit to a conference in Enugu on the15th of August, 2024, were handed over to their Vice Chancellors.
Seven others who had also fallen victim to the kidnappers also regained their freedom.
Security agencies the police, DSS and military personnel and equipment were involved in the operation, with the support of the Benue State government.
The victims were said to be on their way to Enugu State, passing through the Otukpo Local Government area in Benue before they encountered bandits.
