The reason Alex Iwobi and two other players were taken off the field early in Tuesday’s match against Nottingham Forest has been clarified by Fulham manager Marco Silva.
With Fulham behind 2-0, Iwobi, Harry Wilson, and Sasa Lukic were substituted in the 33rd minute.
The triple replacements had no beneficial effect because Forest scored in stoppage time of the first half.
The substitution was the second-quickest in Premier League history.
Speaking on the remarkable triple first-half change, Silva said: “It’s important to say, when I made the triple change, it wasn’t the fault of Harry Wilson, Sasa Lukic and Alex Iwobi at all.
“In that moment, the team needed much more changes than just three. As a collective, we were not there. It was a tactical change. We needed Tom Cairney and Willian to at least have the ball.”
Fulham is in 13th position after 31 games in the league table.
