Wike Declares PDP Unprepared for 2027 Elections, Lacks Structure to Challenge APC

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says the Peoples Democratic Party is not ready for the 2027 elections, citing lack of structure and internal power struggles as major setbacks.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not prepared to contest or win the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a live media parley in Abuja on Friday, Wike expressed concerns over the opposition party’s internal divisions and lack of a cohesive structure capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The PDP is not ready for the 2027 election. It is very obvious,” Wike said. “For instance, I have an examination and I am going to class to read. But am I actually studying? You don’t need to deceive anybody by pretending to be serious.”

He likened the party’s current state to students who feign academic seriousness without genuine preparation.

According to the minister, infighting and unresolved power tussles within the PDP have made it impossible for the party to present a united and formidable front ahead of the next election cycle.

“Power struggle cannot help the party,” he added.

His remarks come amid ongoing but faltering efforts among opposition leaders to form a coalition to challenge the APC in 2027. Despite shared interests, persistent divisions and conflicting ambitions among key players continue to stall meaningful progress.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and influential figure within the PDP, has often been vocal about the party’s internal challenges and leadership crises.
