Wike to face disciplinary committee over anti-party activities – PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike over allegations of anti-party activities.

This decision was disclosed by the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi.

Abdullahi explained that Wike has been called to appear before the PDP’s disciplinary committee, which is chaired by elder statesman Tom Ikimi. This move is part of the party’s broader effort to address concerns of internal dissent and ensure party cohesion. Abdullahi noted that the PDP had recently established both reconciliation and disciplinary committees to handle various issues, including those raised against Wike and other members.

The summons comes in response to numerous petitions accusing Wike of undermining the party’s interests. Abdullahi revealed that these petitions, which have been compiled and submitted to the disciplinary committee, allege that Wike engaged in activities that sabotage the party’s efforts during the primaries and beyond.

Further compounding the controversy, Abdullahi criticized Wike’s recent statements about inciting conflict among PDP governors. He described Wike’s remarks as “wrong and unacceptable,” indicating that the party did not condone such rhetoric. Abdullahi expressed disappointment with Wike’s comments, emphasizing that they were not in alignment with the party’s expectations or values.

This disciplinary action follows Wike’s recent statements and actions, including his expression of satisfaction with his role in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Despite facing criticism from within his own party, Wike has defended his position and threatened political instability in states where PDP governors might interfere with party affairs, particularly in the South-South region. His provocative remarks, made during a PDP Congress in Port Harcourt, included a challenge to anyone displeased with his current role to “go and hug the transformer,” a phrase suggesting they should deal with their grievances elsewhere.
