Winter Storm Forces Cancellation of Flights in Germany
A winter blizzard prompted Frankfurt Airport in Germany to temporarily halt takeoffs and landings on Thursday, resulting in the cancellation of hundreds of flights.
A spokesman for the airport operator, Fraport, stated on Thursday morning that around 300 out of the approximately 1,000 flights that were planned to take place at Frankfurt Airport on Thursday had been canceled.
At the airport, planes were taking off and landing, but air traffic was still getting over a storm that had hit parts of southern and western Germany with snow, ice, and freezing rain.
It was unclear if additional flights might be cancelled throughout Thursday.
The airport spokeswoman urged passengers to check the status of their flights online before traveling to the airport.
The Frankfurt Airport is Germany’s largest and most important aviation hub and is among the busiest airports in Europe.
