World Cup Qualifier: Super Eagles missed Ekong, Osimhen, Izamoje laments

Chief Executive Officer of Brila FM radio, Dr. Larry Izamoje in his reaction to the calamitous defeat of the Super Eagles by the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in yesterday’s World Cup qualifier in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire said the players missed Williams Troost-Ekong and African Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen.

Describing the team’s performance as lacklustre, Dr. Izamoje said that the Finidi George’s tutored side side lacked leadership on the pitch as they showed lack of hunger for the World Cup ticket.

Speaking on telephone with pains of the defeat in his voice, he said “there was no leadership on the field.

“We clearly missed the commanding presence of Williams Troost-Ekong and also the commanding presence of Victor Osimhen.”

He said that both players could galvanise the team, adding, “you saw what they did in Cote d’Ivoire.

“For CAF to pick our skipper (Ekong) as the best player of the tournament meant a lot.

“The boys were wandering today (yesterday), there was miscommunication and unforced errors.

“When you see a national team player pass the ball four or five times to an opponent when nobody is marking that player, then you know that there is something wrong.”

According to Dr. Izamoje, “in one sentence, the boys don’t seem to need this World Cup ticket.”
