The Governor of Bauchi State has urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the current economic policies, stating that they are not widely accepted by the general public. The Governor made this call during the Christmas Day celebration held in Bauchi on Thursday.
He advised President Tinubu to set aside pride and listen to the suffering masses, emphasizing that when a policy is unpopular, the government should be receptive to the people’s concerns. “We are calling on the presidency and the federal government to change their approach. When a policy is not popular, they should listen to the people, and not be arrogant, thinking that whatever they say must be accepted. This is not an oligarchy. This is not military rule. A good leader listens to the people,” the Governor said.
He further stated that any actions contrary to this would lead to chaos and intransigence, which is unacceptable. “We must work together across party lines and all tiers of government to bring relief to the Nigerian people. It’s not about pride or ego, because the situation was not always like this,” he added.
The Governor also called on the presidency to acknowledge the prevailing hardships and be open to change, urging them to listen to the concerns of the people. “If the situation was better before I came, let me know, and I will change. The presidency must also listen,” he said.
In addition, the Governor asked Christians across the country to pray for Nigeria during these challenging times. He thanked the Christian community for their continued support, particularly the people of Bauchi State, and expressed his gratitude for their backing throughout his political career, even when he was in the ANPP and during his second term as governor.
The Governor’s plea comes in the wake of several economic policies introduced by President Tinubu’s administration, which have caused significant hardship for the masses.
