The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has reassured residents of robust security measures during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, announced the deployment of 4,000 personnel across the FCT and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of lives and protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
These personnel, drawn from specialized units such as the Special Intervention Squad, Special Female Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Arm Squad, Agro Rangers, Special Protection Unit, Intelligence Unit, and the Operations Department, have been assigned to maintain peace and order throughout the festive season.
In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, and released on Thursday, Odumosu urged personnel to adhere strictly to the operation orders. He emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance in securing critical infrastructure, places of worship, recreational centers, markets, malls, bus parks, and other key locations throughout the city.
Odumosu warned that anyone attempting to exploit the festive period for criminal activities would face severe consequences. He stated, “We are fully aware of the types of crimes that occur during this season, and we are prepared to tackle any security breaches. Those intending to undermine the government’s efforts or commit crimes are advised to reconsider their actions.”
The commandant also highlighted the Corps’ ongoing 24-hour surveillance and patrols to safeguard public infrastructure and prevent vandalism and theft. “We will not rest until we ensure the safety of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT,” Odumosu asserted, reaffirming the command’s commitment to a safe and peaceful holiday season.
Odumosu called for maximum cooperation among personnel and collaboration with other security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police, to ensure the success of the operation. He also advised armed personnel to exercise restraint in using firearms, warning that any misuse would lead to strict sanctions.
Finally, Odumosu urged FCT residents to stay vigilant, celebrate responsibly, and report any suspicious activities to security agencies for prompt action. He reassured the public of their safety and encouraged them to go about their celebrations with confidence.
