The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has reiterated the ban on firecrackers, knockouts, and other fireworks during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
This ban, as outlined in a statement by FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, aims to safeguard the safety of residents and protect lives and property throughout the festive season.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, stressed that the use of such items could trigger unnecessary panic and anxiety within communities in the capital city. Additionally, the use of fireworks poses significant risks, including fire hazards and other preventable accidents.
The FCT Police Command warned that anyone caught violating the ban, including both sellers and users, would face arrest and prosecution under the law.
Community leaders and residents are urged to help raise awareness about the dangers associated with fireworks and firecrackers.
